MadWords v2016
Hello, and welcome to MadWords version 2016!

This is the site where you will find a boatload of class information (handouts, assignments, teacher postings, student comments, etc.).
The easiest thing to do is to bookmark the page once you have navigated to it.
I am pumped about this school year, I really am. This is not something that I say at the beginning of each year (you can ask brothers or sisters or cousins or moms or dads or neighbors or even a cat). There is something about this upcoming year, I don’t know what it quite is, that tells something wonderful is peeking around the corner.
Call it intuition. Call it silly. Call it a cab, whatever. There is no denying that it is true!
So, here is hoping that you are excited as well about your first year of middle school.
You only have one very first time at everything.
Make your first day at Hayes one you will always remember. Even if it turns out to be outrageously funny!
All right, all right, I really look forward to meeting each of you next week.
Have a fabulous weekend.
And go you White Sox!

Hi Mr.Madden-
You know that the first day of school you introduced yourself a little and then you somehow got to the topic of languages, and you said that you speak a little spanish. well i want to now about that, where did you learn it? in high school or not, because guess what! i’m fully mexican.i came here 3 years ago, and get really interested in people that know or are mexican. so just write back or tell me some time in school.
ok see you around

Laura,
Yep, I grew up in Chicago, but didn’t take Spanish in high school (Holy Name Cathedral in downtown Chicago). Instead, I learned from a lot of my Hispanic friends who were either Mexican or Puerto Rican. I ended up spending scads of time at their houses, eating meals, so the moms and dads and especially grandmas taught me a little bit.
I did take two years of Spanish at Michigan State University, though, so I did take some classes eventually.
Thanks for asking, Laura, and I am glad you are in my class!

Hi Mr Madden! I know it has nothing to do with English but I want someones opinion, in band, I am stuck between saxaphone or percussion. Which one sounds fun to you?

Amanda,
Hmm, well, it is just my opinion, but I have always thought that percussion would be a gas to play!

Mr. Madden,
quick question when i was in Mr. Root’s
today we had Mrs. Taylor come in and told us that gum wasn’t
allowed in the school. But teachers say that we can chew gum in class. I am sooooooo confused!

mrmadden Reply:

Lauren,
The official ruling is no gum. However, sometimes teachers don’t hear or see kids chewing, so they don’t get busted.
Use you best judgment.
Mr. M

ok cool was so confused!
Thanks!!

Mr. Madden,
I know this isn’t an ELA question but I was wondering…
If a question said has there been any exploration attempts by humans to planet earth how would you answer it???
If you have any idea please post it! Thank you!!

Lauren,
Hmm. Now, is that the exact wording in the question? What I mean is that sometimes questions are formed to have something hidden within the question itself. A sort-of trick question.
I didn’t Google this, so my first, gut reaction is that, yes, there has been exploration attempts by humans to planet Earth if one considers exploring unchartered territory while it was and is still unchartered. Like the oceans, for example, most of the oceans on Earth haven’t been fully explored, nor has the subterranean aspect, you know, digging down deep into and past the Earth’s mantle.
Let me know how this goes, Miss L.
