Try listening to C6 of Charlotte Doyle by playing the podcast below.  Let me know if it works for you on your computer.  You may have to meddle with your audio settings, like volume, a bit for it to work well.

Enjoy!

Truly.  This is, I believe, the first time since I have been at Hayes that the school was closed for a non-weather reason.

Hm.

So, what shall I do with my “free” day?

Well,

I could:

  • rake the yard (I love Fall!)
  • get rid of paper piles inside the house (Supremely boring, but necessary.)
  • create a flower on the Black-Eyed Peas site, Plant and Inspire web site.
  • buy a new, larger litter box for our kitties, Sam and Zoey (VERY necessary)
  • go on a bike ride (I LIKE this idea!)
  • get an iced mocha at B’s (This will happen.)
  • stay online and read blogs (intriguing, but I cannot stay inside on a day like today!)

In a battle between Letters and Numbers, who would win? ImageChef Word Mosaic - ImageChef.com

If a war ever took place, if Numbers decided that they should be the masters of the universe, and they declared a war upon the Letters, who would emerge victorious?

How would either Letters or Numbers defeat the other?

What would happen if Numbers did go to battle and crush Letters?  What then?  What kind of world would we live in?

How would we communicate if Numbers declared that citizens of the Earth could only use numbers for everything from now on:  talking, texting, typing, writing, singing, dreaming..?

Whose side would be on if such a confrontation ever took place?

MEAP!

So, now that you have experienced a day of middle school MEAPing, what did you think?

How did it go?  What did you think of your time spent testing?

Why do you think there is MEAP?  (Most adults have no clue what kids think of MEAP!)

How do you prepare for MEAP?  Or, not prepare?

What is your “favorite” part of MEAPing?

And,

least favorite part?

Come on, add your voice!

PTO: What would we do without them? (A lot less!)

Filed under books, ela, hayes, sixth grade

It is true.

Without the Hayes PTO, the staff and students who work together here would be short of one of our most valued resources.  The PTO provides moral, financial, and organizational support that would be sorely missed.

If your parents are interested in supporting the PTO, have them download one of the participation forms here:

PTO Involvement form (.pdf)

PTO Involvement form (.doc)

I agree with Mr. Wright who writes:

The PTO and other student organizations will be needing assistance from parents throughout the year. A form was sent home recently with a form to fill out if you are willing to help during the year. If you did not receive that but might be able to help during the year, please download it from the file section to the right and send it in.

You are 11% done with sixth grade

Believe it!

By the end of school on Friday, you people will have completed 11% of your sixth grade school year.

Wow.  (Shake of the head.)

So, aa

How has it gone for you?

Is it everything you thought it would be?

Are your teachers stranger, odder, weirder, scarier, stricter, lamer, stupider, or more wonderful than you thought on your first day?

What about the hallways, cafe, library, gym, bus ride, old friends, new friends, of course,

Homework!

Is sixth grade

All that

You thought

It would

be?

Fred the YouTube star

Okay.

Fred.

YouTube.

If you know of whom I speak, what do you know about Fred?

Why is he so popular among young people like yourselves?

What makes his videos (vids) so addictive?

Why have his videos been viewed over 63 million times?

What does he know that adults don’t know?
